The Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Togogganing (FIBT) was founded on November 23, 1923 by the delegates of Great Britain, France and Switzerland, and the representatives of Canada and the United States, meeting at an International Congress in Paris, France.
The FIBT is an international non-governmental organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is made up of National Federation Members, Associate Members, and Honorary Members. National Federation members must be recognized by the National Olympic Committee in that country. The right to vote at FIBT Congresses is based on the level of participation in FIBT competitions. The FIBT headquarters is in Lausanne, Switzerland.
