Martini Wins Second Straight World Cup Race
LAKE PLACID, NY -- Cathleen Martini and Romy Logsch won their second straight Intersport Women’s Bobsleigh World Cup Saturday afternoon, a .41 victory over teammates Sandra Kiriasis and Janine Tischer. Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse of Canada took the bronze.
Martini, second ranked last season in the World Cup with Tischer on the brakes, switched to Logsch for the 2009-2010 Olympic season. The for the second straight week they produced the fastest times in both heats, 58.27 and 57.88 for a 1:56.15 total time.
Kiriasis and Tischer recorded 58.28 and 58.28 heat times for a 1:56.56 total time. Humphries and Moyse had 58.67 and 58.56 runs for a 1:57.23. Completing the top six teams were Claudia Schramm of Germany, 1:57.24; Shauna Rohbock of the USA, 1:57.31; and Helen Upperton of Canada, 1:57.46.
There was one crash in the second heat by Manami Hino and Konomi Asazu of Japan. Ac and her brakeman Michelle Rzepka of the USA tied the start record in the second heat with a 5.46.
Martini leads the World Cup with 450 points, followed by Kiriasis, 420; Humphries, 376; Erin Pac of the USA, 368; and Upperton, 360.
