Olympic champion Amy Williams carries Olympic flame towards London
Bath (RWH)  Olympic skeleton champion Amy Williams is one of 8,000 people to carry the Olympic flame on its way to the 2012 Summer Olympics. The 70-day torch relay through the UK started on 19 May and will end on 27 July when the last torchbearer lights the cauldron at the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium. Amy Williams was one of 147 torchbearers to carry the flame on its way from Taunton to Bristol in the South of England on day four. And the 29-year-old will continue to follow the torch on its route through her home country, chairing a weekly video blog with interviews and information for the BBC.

Amy Williams won Britain’s only gold medal in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, making her the first British female to win an individual event in a Winter Olympics in 58 years. The skeleton slider was also World Champion runner-up in 2009 and third in the 2011 European Championships. In April this year she announced her retirement from the sport after a season handicapped by injuries which made it impossible for her to defend her place on the British World Cup team.
