FIBT presents sports calendar for 2013/14 winter season

Highlights: XXII. Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and eight Viessmann World Cups

Lausanne (RWH) The XXII. Olympic Winter Games in Sochi (RUS) and eight events in the Viessmann FIBT Bob & Skeleton World Cup Tour will be the highlights in the sports calendar of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation FIBT next winter. The fight for Olympic medals in women’s bobsleigh, two-man and four-man bobsleigh, women’s skeleton and men's skeleton will take place from February 7 - 23 at Sanki Sliding Centre in the mountains of Western Caucasus.

But even before the Games, FIBT presents a large programme for the 2013/14 season, covering eight events in the Viessmann World Cup on seven tracks in five countries and on two continents. There will be also eight races each in the Intercontinental Cup, the North America Cup and the Europa Cup. Younger athletes will be able to compete in the Junior World Championships in Winterberg (GER, January 21 – 26, 2014).

The Viessmann FIBT Bob & Skeleton World Cup Tour 2013/2014 will open on the artificial track in Calgary (CAN, November 24 - 30, 2013). The athletes then move on to the US tracks in Park City (December 2 – 7) and Lake Placid (December 10 - 15). Next stops following the Christmas break are the events in Winterberg (GER, December 31, 2013 – January 5, 2014), St. Moritz (SUI, January 7 – 12), Igls (AUT, January 14 – 19) and the finals in Königssee (GER, January 21 – 26), at the same time FIBT European Championships 2014.

During the Viessmann FIBT World Cup Tour 2013/2014 each discipline has one double race (Park City: women’s bobsleigh, Lake Placid: two man bobsleigh and women’s skeleton, Winterberg: four man bobsleigh, St. Moritz: men’s skeleton).

From February 5, the FIBT athletes meet in Sochi for an International Training Week to prepare for the XXII. Olympic Winter Games as season’s highlight. The Sanki Sliding Centre in Rzhanaya Polyana, located 60 km northeast from Sochi in the mountains of Western Caucasus, is venue of the Olympic bobsleigh, skeleton and luge competitions.
